Itinerary
You will be greeted and helped at the airport upon arrival before being driven to your overnight lodging. The legacy the British left behind may be seen in Delhi, the capital of India and a significant point of entrance into the country. After breakfast, take a trip to Amber Fort, which is 11 kilometres from Jaipur and once served as the state's capital. The fort, a magnificent example of Rajput architecture, was built starting in 1592 by Raja Man Singh, the Rajput commander of Akbar's army. Start the Agra city tour after breakfast. Visit the Red Fort, which Emperor Akbar constructed in 1565 and continued to expand under the leadership of his grandson Shah Jahan. Itmad-ud-daulah, which Nur Jahan built between 1622 and 1628, is strikingly identical to the mausoleum she built for her husband, Jahangir, next to Lahore in Pakistan. The Taj Mahal, which was built by Shah Jahan in honour of his wife Mumtaz Mahal, was the day's high point. The Taj's construction didn't finish until 1653, but it had started in 1631. Arrive in Jhansi and travel to Orchha, a historic town built by Bundela kings that boasts 16th and 17th century palaces and temples that have miraculously survived the passage of time. The river Betwa picturesquely encircles the city. Visit the nearby fortification and the nearby Ram Raja shrine. After lunch, keep driving to Khajuraho; once there, check into a hotel and spend the night.
After breakfast, travel to Khajuraho, where the 25 or so surrounding temples depict various aspects of life, including the sensual. Khajuraho was erected by the warrior Chandela dynasty, who rose to dominance in Central India between the 10th and 11th centuries. Since Khajuraho was rediscovered by a British officer in 1838, the erotic sculptures on several of the panels have been the subject of much discussion. Khajuraho has been designated a World Heritage Site in order to protect it for future generations. Previously, Varanasi was referred to as Kashi, or the city that shines. Varanasi, the oldest city still inhabited in India and one of the oldest cities in the world, serves as the religious centre of Hinduism. The city's current name comes from the fact that the rivers Varuna and Asi meet there. After breakfast, take a trip to Sarnath, the Buddhist city that is buried, where the Buddha delivered his first speech. The Buddha travelled to Sarnath after achieving enlightenment in Bodh Gaya, and it was there that he gave his first sermon to start the "Wheel of Dharma" turning. It is one of the holiest locations since it was here that the Buddha's teachings first began to flow. From the 16th century BC through the 12th century AD, Sarnath was home to a renowned educational institution. Visit the museum, stupa, Buddhist temple, and ruins (closed on Friday). The Ashok Pillar, which houses four guardian lions, is located in the museum and served as India's national emblem. Afternoon at the hotel.
Early in the morning, depart for a boat ride on the Ganges to explore the cremation grounds and bathing Ghats (river bank). A boat's view of the riverfront at sunrise can be inspiring on a spiritual level. Breakfast at the hotel is now served. Visit the Bharat Mata temple, which features a sizable relief map of India made of marble, the Durga temple, the Tulsi Manas Mandir, and the Banaras Hindu University after breakfast.
